Convicted under UK Terrorism Act for inviting support for ISIS; second conviction 2024 for directing proscribed organisation

Long-running British Islamist preacher associated with al-Muhajiroun and successor groups. On 16 August 2016 a Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey) jury convicted Choudary under section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000 of inviting support for the proscribed organisation Daesh / Islamic State, after he and co-defendant Mohammed Mizanur Rahman swore an oath of allegiance and broadcast it. Sentenced to five years and six months. Convicted again 30 July 2024 of directing a terrorist organisation (al-Muhajiroun) and addressing meetings of a proscribed group; sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum 28 years.
