Convicted of sexual assault of a child after forced spiritual marriages of underage girls

President of the FLDS Church. Texas Rangers raided the YFZ Ranch in 2008 and removed 401 children. In 2011 the 51st District Court of Texas convicted Jeffs on two counts of sexual assault of a child following spiritual marriages he conducted and consummated with a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old, sentencing him to life plus twenty years. A separate Utah conviction in 2007 was overturned on jury-instruction grounds; the underlying findings of forced underage marriages are documented across both proceedings.
